Quality Assurance Unit

MISSION

The mission of the QAU of the NKUA is the continuous improvement of the quality of the educational and research work of the Institution, as well as the effective operation and performance of its services, in accordance with international practices, especially those of the European Higher Education Area, and the guidelines of the Hellenic Authority for Higher Education (HAHE). The Quality Assurance Unite (QAU) of NKUA is responsible for the organization and implementation in the Institution of the Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS), certified by HAHE with specific principles, criteria, regulations, along with information procedures and constant improvement mechanisms. It is also responsible for monitoring and controlling the quality operation of the institution at all levels.

The Quality Assurance Unite of the NKUA is not a service that simply collects data and prepares reports on the statistical indicators of the Institution. It is an important advisory unit for the University's administration because through the coordination of the internal and external evaluation processes of the academic units of the institution, it gathers valuable information on the strengths and weaknesses of the University, on its shortcomings and its needs, recommending improvements and changes with a view to ensuring that a high level of quality services is provided to its human resources and to society.

Moreover, the Quality Assurance Unite of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is called upon to contribute to the development of a general culture that makes quality assurance one of the most important priorities of the institution. For this to happen, apart from the informative meetings and workshops, the implementation of the evaluation and certification procedures, the preparation of the necessary reports and, in general, apart from the contractual obligations of our University towards the provisions of the institutional framework regarding the quality assurance procedures in Higher Education Institutions, a prerequisite is the timely provision of information to all actors, combined with the implementation of a critical stance, promoting free expression and the circulation of ideas regarding the amelioration of the Institution’s educational and research processes and the private evaluation and accreditation procedures.
