At the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, an Internal Quality Assurance System (IQAS) is developed and implemented, under the responsibility and initiative of the relevant Quality Assurance Unit (QAU), which covers the entire range of functions and activities of the institution. The purpose of the IQAS is to achieve high quality in the operation of the Institution and the constant improvement of its educational and research work, as well as the effective work and performance of its services, in accordance with international practices, especially those of the European Higher Education Area, and the principles and guidelines of HAHE.
The IQAS of the QAU includes all those procedures - processes required by the institution for the systematic evaluation (internal and external) and improvement of all educational and research work carried out at the NKUA, as well as the implementation of accreditation procedures for its curricula, as required by law. The scope of the IQAS is the academic accreditation of the Institution's Curricula, the accreditation of the IQAS as well as the implementation of quality assurance in the academic and service units and human resources. In particular, the levels of implementation of the Quality Assurance procedures are teaching, research, and administrative work. The structure of the IQAS includes processes, procedures and work instructions which are linked and interact with each other to produce the desired results.
The IQAS of the NKUA was certified with the highest grade "Fully Compliant" by decision of the HQA (now HAHE) Council (2-11-2018) after the completion of the certification process by a team of external evaluators, which took place from 13 to 19 October 2018.
